Kotka is a port city of 53,000 people, located on the coast of the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Finland. It’s approximately 130 kilometers east of Finland’s capital city of Helsinki and 290 kilometers west of St. Petersburg, Russia.
Kotka is home of the 2nd largest export port in Finland. Leading types of cargo include paper, timber, stone, metal and, increasingly, automobiles. It is also the largest transit port in Finland.
Kotka has some very beautiful parks, including the award-winning Sapokka Water Garden. The Kymi River offers ample opportunities for fishing and paddling, while the archipelago of Kotka is a boater’s paradise. They’re also home to a number of maritime and cultural festivals.
