Winters are quite cold in Finland, so many people use electric heaters to keep their car motors warm.

Speaking of cars, my cousin Harri added another one to his collection. Unfortunately, my car collection is limited to Matchbox and Hot Wheels!

Harri and I drove to Alapihlaja in the afternoon, stopping a few places to take pictures. Here is an old building that was bombed during the war…note the damage to the structure. This is a beautiful church we spotted along the way.

We checked in on the old family home, seen here from another angle. Still quite a bit of snow here, obviously no one has used the sauna lately. It was a sunny winter day, albeit still below freezing.

Harri and I left Pihlaja mid afternoon, taking the so-called Museum Road (King’s Highway) to Hamina. We made a brief stop to visit an old friend of his, where Harri really bonded with their family cat.

Went to see my Aunt Meeri in Hamina, where it started snowing pretty heavily. So much for that sunshine! I’ve been to the public marketplace many times in the summer, but it looked so lonely in the wintertime.

We got back to Lappeenranta around 6, where H&M’s nephew Emil had arrived for a short visit. Their son Timo stopped by in the evening.

Hung out at Harri and Mirja’s house during the day, then we decided to go bowling.

We met Timo, Mikko (H&M’s other son) and his girfriend Jessica at the bowling alley. I attempted to bowl, but it was very painful with my sore back and leg. Still fun to have everyone there, though.

After bowling, we drove back to Harri and Mirja’s where I unveiled the Crazy Horse Mask. Mikko tried it on first, greeting Harri at the door. Next it was Mirja’s turn. Yes, we all have a wacky sense of humor!

From there, Mikko and Jessica took me back to their apartment. Timo joined us. We played Kimble and “horsed” around some more with the crazy horse mask!
