Saturday June 29 2002
Marja dropped me off in Alapihlaja around 4PM. Snapped a photo of the horsma flower. Walked back to our cottage, had dinner and went to sauna.
We got some company: my cousin Jouni, his daughter Marjut, my cousin Merja, her two sons (expecting a 3rd child in September) and her husband Mika seen here with my uncle Teuvo.
Later we stopped by Terttu’s cottage, then went to Leena’s for pancakes and cards.
Sunday June 30 2002
I went to Teuvo and Meeri’s this morning, then grocery shopping with Terttu and Meeri. Everyone came over to our cottage for afternoon coffee and cake, including Marjut and Jouni, Meeri and the siblings Terttu, Teuvo and Liisa.
Visited Terttu and Teuvo during the day, came back for dinner and went back to Teuvo’s to watch TV. We wrapped up the day with a game of Yahtzee. Yeah, its a tough life LOL
Monday July 1 2002
Today was my last day in Alapihlaja. Went to Terttu’s for lunch. Later to sauna and to say goodbye to Leena. Took this picture of the beautiful sky near our cottage.
Tuesday July 2 2002
Said goodbye to Terttu, Teuvo and Liisa. Harri picked up Meeri and I and drove us to Lappeenranta.
Tytti met us there and caught the bus to Helsinki for our overnight cruise to Stockholm, Sweden. We went via Viking Line, a great name for a Nordic ship.
Harri and I stayed out late, trolling the ship’s bars and dance clubs. Chicks dig us…because we are two wild and craaaazy guys!
Wednesday July 3 2002
We arrived in Stockholm this morning, passing an amusement park on our way into the harbor. Took some pics of the Finnish flag and my crazy cousin Harri.
After docking, we took a taxi to the railway station and dropped off Meeri’s luggage. We had a heck of a time figuring out how to work the storage lockers!
Walked around downtown and had coffee, later caught a cab back to the ship. We took a nice afternoon nap before dinner, then went to the tax-free shop. Had a few drinks and got to bed around 1AM.
Thursday July 4 2002
Arrived back in Helsinki around 10AM.
Antti picked me up and drove me to his parents’ place in Malmi. Very warm weather today…started raining in the afternoon. Walked to the local grocery store.
Antti’s wife Minna picked me up later and drove me downtown. I met Antti and his friends for drinks. Got in late as usual!
Friday July 5 2002
Woke up early, packed and showered. I walked to the bus stop to catch the bus to airport.
The lines at the airport were long but eventually I got through. My flights went fine and I arrived home safe and sound 🙂
