Laid out a while and got some sun. Walked to Prisma supermarket and grabbed lunch at Hessburger.
Liisa and Terttu were here when I returned, then we went to visit their friend Albin. He’s a collector of buttons and patches, seen here covering one of the doors in his apartment.
After having coffee at Albin’s, we went grocery shopping and back to Malmi to cook dinner. Played some cards and watched The Lone Gunmen on TV.
Tuesday July 22 2003
Walked to the gas station to buy some coolant for Terttu’s car. Liisa and Terttu went to visit their cousin while I hung out in Malmi. Cooked some pizza and wings.
We visited Leena in the evening…today was her name day so we brought her flowers.
Picked up my cousin Maraike and son Alex (seen here with Terttu) at the airport.
Wednesday July 23 2003
Anna-Leena came over for breakfast. Later, we went to the marketplace in Helsinki harbor.
Took some photos of the group, a fish vendor, the old market building, a reindeer and the famous Helsinki Cathedral.
Came back to Malmi, then walked to the store to return some empty bottles.
It started raining as we left for Alapihlaja, coming down very heavy at times. We stopped for lunch on the way, power kept going out in the restaurant.
Back in Alapihlaja, we visited Teuvo and Meeri. Liisa’s cousin Pentti had dropped off a fish for us. Terttu, Maraike and Alex came to our cottage for a late dinner and some card playing.

Straightening up my stuff while Liisa went to the beach with Maraike and Alex.
Jorma, Jaana and Juuli stopped for a visit…later Liisa’s cousin Irma and boyfriend Olli dropped by too.
Went to Terttu’s cottage later. Was quite dark when we left, Liisa fell in a ditch on the way back and started laughing. Yeah, we are quite the amusing bunch!
Friday July 25 2003
Stopped at the Alko in Virojoki, then to visit Terttu’s friend Elli.
Went swimming in a nearby pond. It was very nice…very deep too…up to 11 meters I was told.
After swimming, we went back to Elli’s for coffee and cake. We checked out the expansion they’re building on their house. While the group posed for a photo with the small family dog…the big dog demanded a close-up!
We stopped in Virojoki again, this time for groceries. Got back to the cottage and cooked out on the grill.

Hung out at the cottage. My friend Tiina and her friend Paivi came by to visit in the afternoon.
Tiina (sitting at right in the photo) had her name day on Thursday, so I gave her a bottle of wine to celebrate. We walked down to the beach and checked out all the dried seagrass.
Sunday July 27 2003
Hung out at the cottage and played games. Visited Teuvo and Meeri, checked my email. Talked with Mirja about coming to visit Lappeenranta.
